Quick round-up of the latest versions:

Ubuntu has packaged 0.7.beta4.

Ubuntu's package depends on autopano-sift, which brings in the
Mono framework. Upstream and the unofficial Debian Multimedia
repository have a rewrite of that tool in C. Both are
patent-encumbered in the US.

So far I haven't installed Ubuntu's version.

For users wanting the latest version, Upstream's instructions for
building from source on Ubuntu work well on Debian Unstable too.
They don't provide a source tarball, so it's a case of taking the
latest from subversion, I received version 0.7.0.3113.

Packaging upstream in to a Debian package looks like a lot of
work. I'd like to see it in Debian, I can offer a some help at
the moment (as a Debian user who knows C, not a Debian Dev).
