As Jonathan said, ypcat is just a thin wrapper around libc APIs - in
fact, as far as tools like login are concerned the NIS package has no
involvement beyond binding to the NIS server.  All parsing of data
provided by the server is done outside of the NIS package.

Reassigning there as a result but please provide further information on
what has changed between a working and non-working system - I strongly
expect that you will also have changed other packages.
