Package: openoffice.org-core Version: 1:2.4.0-5 Severity: normal Hi,
OpenOffice.org apparently does not pay attention to the default paper
size specified in /etc/papersize or the $PAPERSIZE environment variable
when creating new files (or when opening documents without a
fo:page-width/fo:page-height specification). The page dimensions seem
to be determined from the locale settings instead:
$ LC_ALL=en_US oowriter # gives Letter
$ LC_ALL=en_GB oowriter # gives A4
$ LC_ALL=en_CA oowriter # gives Letter
$ PAPERSIZE=a4 LC_ALL=en_CA oowriter # gives Letter
This behavior feels confusing and wrong to me, as I’ve explicitly
specified a default paper size for my system. OpenOffice.org should
call paperconf to determine the proper values and use the current
automatism as a fallback only.
To be clear: This is not about printing (where CUPS seems to be involved
according to #434271), but about the page setup of new documents.
I’m filing this on openoffice.org-core because this problem exists at
least in Writer, Calc and Draw (without testing the other programs),
which leads me to the assumption that this magic is code common to all
of OOo. If I am wrong, please clone and reassign as needed.
