It would be very useful for Debian Edu if pam-ldap could use the SRV records from DNS to locate the server, and thus be able to use the same configuration setting for both pam and nss.
I note that somewhere, in the chain of bugs you're reported on the two packages, that your DNS setup is bad (localhost.localdomain) ! Until you have a proper DNS setup, anything done in pam/nss-ldap will not provide you any benefit ! These libraries will *) rely on the current domain name in the query for SRV records *) construct base from DNS domain, or *) query rootDSE of servers discovered by SRV (your new rqst) DHCP client (v3), and resolvconf do a fairly good job of managing /etc/resolv.conf (putting in search/domain) - from dhcp server, or /etc/network/interfaces. For static IPs, the user should know domain to put in /etc/resolv.conf. You can do dynamic discovery of all this, but I've not looked into your toolchain - its support, goals, etc. -- Rick Nelson <Mercury> Someone fix it. <Despair> committed <Knghtbrd> Despair: Mercury? <Despair> Knghtbrd: he's tired, made a mistake, wanted someone to undo it. <Knghtbrd> Despair: so you had him committed? <Despair> Knghtbrd: well, dedicated anyways. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
