Excellent. Looks like it's just choosing a reactor that doesn't work.
IMO this is not particularly severe: the non-default reactors are only
necessary if you plan to support many thousands of concurrent
connections, which will never be very reliable because Microsoft will
notice what you are doing and ban you.

Nevertheless, it is possible that simply commenting out line 75 of
main.py will fix the problem--could you please try that and get back to
me?

Looks good, commenting that line does allow startup :)

but doesn't contact msn - the transport says:
(22:34:41) msn.cavein.org: Failed to connect to MSN servers: [Failure
instance: Traceback (failure with no frames): exceptions.Exception:
Timeout]

Could you try 'telnet messenger.hotmail.com 1863' to see if you can
connect to MSN directly?

This is from the same machine running ejabberd & the transports
$ telnet messenger.hotmail.com 1863
Trying 207.46.28.93...
Connected to dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
help
Connection closed by foreign host.

and the log file has the familar error:
exceptions.AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'removePID'

This is annoying but harmless. If only twisted would keep its API
stable... :)

:)

I am still unable to actually get pymsnt to connect :(

My server is behind a NAT box (in the DMZ), and has its own fairly tight
firewall setup - but this was working before I moved from the old debs
(from spectron-msim.com) to the newer ones

looks like the *old* copy of the yahoo transport is also having issues
(care to package that one as well ? :) ... though aim and icq are now
doing fairly well.

<stu> you should be afraid to use KDE because RMS might come to your
house and cleave your monitor with an axe or something :)
