Looks like if a remote server drops the SSL connection, ssl_esock leaks two sockets. So, if your LDAP server becomes unavailable for a short time, ssl_esock consumes another few sockets. I've asked upstream about this bug and I'm now waiting for their response. A workaround for now is to kill ssl_esock periodically (using cron, for example).
