Except that any content in ~/.gv seems enough to trigger that error, which
is not very... elegant.  I grabbed individual lines from the file, and
they were enough to trigger the failure.  Strangely, the newly generated
.gv doesn't seem that much different.

Regenerating preferences is a pain.  If this is going to happen at some
future upgrades, then perhaps some thought needs to be given to how to
aleviate such incompatibilities.  Attempting to parse an old version and
converting to a new version would be welcome behaviour, although I don't
know whether the Xresources style format would allow that.
