Package: gnome-settings-daemon Version: 2.22.2.1-1 After some recent upgrade on a machine running sid, the gnome-screensaver no longer worked after a login. Manually launching gnome-screensaver will fix the problem until the next login.
I saw a post that mentioned that gnome-settings-daemon was responsible for launching the screensaver at startup, and that the gconf /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/screensaver/start_screensaver value controls this behavior. On my machine both start_screensaver and show_startup_errors showed "<no value>" in gconf-editor. Changing both of those values to true has no effect. I also tested a different account, one with a completely new home directory, and the screensaver doesn't start there either. Please let me know if I can provide any more information.
