You're agreeing with me - it does specifically aim at adding support
for SMB2 (I didn't say anything about _dropping_ support for SMB).

Correct; my bug report does admit this quite clearly, though I
eventually come back to Samba 4 in the part that starts:

My point is that the fix may require coordination across the entire
suite - unless the plan is for Samba 4 to replace Samba 3 early in
Lenny+1, in which case just fixing Samba 4 would do.  I could of
course submit separate bugreports against each package, but would
those be welcome when we're going into a freeze?
