from http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi seems to build and run with icedtea on debian unstable and does not seem to suffer from #492313 or #492315. It also allows me to type umlaut characters (finnish ä and ö). Would you have time and/or interest in upgrading to this new version?
