I did some further investigation.
'apt-get build-dep lighttpd' resolved the problem.

prevent the problem. A new version of libattr1 was recently accepted in
testing, so it looks like that might be the cause.

buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=attr has a strange date and no log for amd64.

But I also found:

# /etc/init.d/lighttpd start
Starting web server: lighttpd/usr/sbin/lighttpd: Symbol `FamErrlist' has 
different size in shared object, consider re-linking

so it could also be a problem in the linking of lighttpd.
This message appears with libgamin0 as libfam-provider, and disappears 
with real libfam0 installed.
The problems occurs on amd64, and not on i386.
