i managed to get a visible gui with xmonad but it would still be very unusable because resizing does not work on the components. I found the suspected reason in the manpage of awesome that also suffers from this bug: | Java applications which use the XToolkit/XAWT backend may draw grey | windows only. The XToolkit/XAWT backend breaks ICCCM-compliance in | recent JDK 1.5 and early JDK 1.6 versions, because it assumes a | reparenting window manager. As a workaround you can use JDK 1.4 | (which doesnt contain the XToolkit/XAWT backend) or you can set | the following environment variable (to use the older Motif backend | instead): AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit Unfortunately, this works only with SUN's Java and not with OpenJDK at the moment because openmotif is non-free, see also this Ubuntu bug #211105 [1] Cheers, Andreas [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-6/+bug/211105 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
