In summary, 'xset r' works here,
Driver evdev and /dev/input/event4 doesn't work.
Driver kbd and AutoRepeat option doesn't work.
My videocard is an nvida GeForce Go 6600, OK using nv X driver.
My laptop is a toshiba tecra s3 120 running lenny since 20080810

Additionally, aptitude dist-upgrade from etch didn't install
xserver-xorg-input-kbd automatically (and I don't see any reference
to it in my log from /usr/bin/script) so I used aptitude install
by hand, and later I discovered repeater problem that only
xset r resolves for me.
