I'm glad to leave it as a wontfix if that makes you happier about it, but in reality I don't see it making a big difference upstream. Notice that the bug has been open for 6 years, and you are the only one who seems interested in it. :-/
Which isn't to say that it's an invalid request, but IMO this is the type of thing where you'd get more traction just trying to make the change yourself. I've already approached upstream, and they are clearly uninterested in even considering this change.
