Hello, recently I played around a bit with the Linux software RAID for grub2. I wasn't able to get your problem with that /dev/.tmp.md0 device.
Maybe this was a bug in udev or mdadm or somewhere else? Please reply if you still have this problem with a recent lenny system. If that's the case then please try the patch from Robert [0] which is as far as I could see still not commited upstream.
