Hi, I'm reassigning this bug to ucf package. I'm pretty sure it's an ucf issue, although I couldn't figure out where's the problem.
For some reason the diff argument here in ucf is coming empty:
show_diff() {
if [ -z "$1" ]; then
echo >&2 "need a diff as argument"
exit 1;
I've tried several ucf calls with different diff situations but
unfortunately couldn't reproduce it :(
Also, Steve Langasek left a non-detailed comment about this on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ucf/+bug/231524/comments/4:
"This is a bug in ucf, which does not correctly handle config file diffs
that are whitespace-only."
So please Antti-Juhani, if possible give us your apticron conf files
from versions 1.1.20 and 1.1.21 that caused this problem while
upgrading your system.
