As of today, there has not been a final decision regarding policy on what the
exit code of "status" should be. A good source of information is
http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts:

- Debian Policy does not yet require a status action at all.
- Adding this to Debian Policy is requested in #291148.
- That bug report contains some discussion of exit codes, and which ones to use,
but the bug is still open.
- LSB specifies a range of exit codes to be used, and as of 2008-07-09 this made
its way into the lsb-base package (see #483285).
- The latter bug report also contains the suggested patch to all init scripts to
  use the standard status function.

In summary, we may leave the bug report as is (there is no requirement by Debian
Policy), but my personal opionion would be following LSB and updating the init
script accordingly. I'll try to come up with a patch as soon as possible.

Best,
Michael
