It's using the dash shell instead of bash. Just let's use /bin/bash
instead of /bin/sh in /usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/tm_gnuplot and the
problem is solved.

I still get
[: 39: =: unexpected operator
[: 95: =: unexpected operator
[: 39: =: unexpected operator
[: 95: =: unexpected operator
in the terminal so other scripts may be affected as well.

Not necessarily as POSIX shell support is a release goal. Nevertheless
it's no longer urgent for me as I know now an easy workaround.
