Alsa midi does not provide /dev/midi, it provides "ports" on the alsa sequencer interface that you can connect to other alsa midi devices via e.g. "aconnect". If you want to use plain midi devices I suggest you use the virmidi alsa module to make virtual alsa devices that expose a raw midi interface.
