Package: firmware-iwlwifi Version: 0.13 Followup-For: Bug #501193 Hi, I encountered the same problem as mentioned by the OP. My laptop has an hardware switch to enable or disable wireless networking. If I boot my machine while the hardware switch is in "wlan off" position dmesg will say, that the switch needs to be on to get wireless to work - so this is quite what it should be. But switching the hardware switch to "wlan on" doesn't do a thing. Nothing happens, no dmesg entry or other stuff. Only if the hardware switch says "wlan on" while loading the iwl3945 module (during boot or with modprobe -r | modprobe) the stuff will work. In this case switching off and on does work like a charm.
With kind regards Dirk dmesg output: ,----[ switch "wireless off" during modprobe ]- | [ 2572.245273] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks | [ 2572.245285] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2008 Intel Corporation | [ 2572.245458] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 | [ 2572.245478] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:05:00.0 to 64 | [ 2572.245510] iwl3945: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG | [ 2572.288451] iwl3945: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 23 802.11a channels | [ 2572.291788] phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-3945-rs' | [ 2572.365728] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 | [ 2572.366157] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode | [ 2572.371330] iwl3945: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch `---- ,----[ switch "wireless on" during modprobe]- | [ 2368.893379] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks | [ 2368.893379] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2008 Intel Corporation | [ 2368.893379] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 | [ 2368.893379] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:05:00.0 to 64 | [ 2368.893379] iwl3945: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG | [ 2368.933369] iwl3945: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 23 802.11a channels | [ 2368.937573] phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-3945-rs' | [ 2369.032978] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 | [ 2369.033092] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode | [ 2369.081093] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:radio | [ 2369.081093] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:assoc | [ 2369.081093] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:RX | [ 2369.081093] Registered led device: iwl-phy0:TX `---- -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash firmware-iwlwifi depends on no packages. firmware-iwlwifi recommends no packages.
