When I installed etch on my laptop and subsequently upgraded it to sid, I was without working wireless. I was getting messages on the console regarding missing firmware, but wasn't able to diagnose what the problem was easily, as I couldn't see a package to do with 'iwl3945' that was missing. In the end, I resorted to 'apt-get install iwl<TAB>', to no avail. I was finally able to resolve the problem, but it took me much longer than was necessary.
