I've had the same problem with the Lenny version of the GIMP (2.4.7-1)

If you open a .xcf file and "save a copy" of it, it will work correctly.
However, as mentioned before, it will not work the second time, or at least
the window will not draw correctly. Buttons and text boxes still function,
but nothing is drawn to the screen.

It appears that if the .xcf file is saved in your home folder you won't get
the error.

I've attached an .xcf file that gives the error.

This bug is also present in the Ubuntu version of the GIMP 2.4 (
