Hi,
When you are creating a .deb, you need to be (fake)root. This
is independent of whether or not you are using make-kpkg as a tool; so
this is not a make-kpkg bug.
Now, if you think the documentation is unclear, I would
appreciate your take on what the documentation should look like. I'll
happily include changes to make all this more clear.
