I explore this bug and GNOME bug [1]. It seemes like it is the same. After rebooting the machine all works fine? both using gconftool-2 tool and using gnome-appearance-properties > Check if there is a nautilus process. If not, try starting one and tell > me whether this changes anything. (ItБ─≥s supposed to work without > nautilus, but IБ─≥d like to be sure the problem lies where I think it > does.) It doesn't matter is there nautilus process or not. When I saw the bug nautilus wasn't started? and starting it didn't changed things. Unfortunately I can't reproduce that situation.
