I am running into the same problem, on a Cyrix 486DX2 80MHz. I tried Dann's kernel, without success (same Int 6, EDI). Thinking this is similar to #488022, I tried disabling CONFIG_NO_HZ, CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS, CONFIG_HPET_TIMER and CONFIG_X86_*_APIC; no dice. I have not yet gone as far as using Raúl's kernel config, as it is looks very much custom-tailored to his system, and would be difficult to get anything useful out of it. Still, I may try, just to see if I can get the kernel itself to boot.
