Further tests with the aid of the upstream developers indicate that the problem of the Debian edbrowse package failing to access Linksys routers can be solved by upgrading to the current CVS version, 3.4.1.
The apparent failure of 3.4.1 to access the routers was the by-product of a known bug in the curl 7.18 package, on which edbrowse depends. That issue can be solved by a curl update to 7.19, or it can easily be avoided by typing any non-blank string instead of an empty string when the router asks for the username. The only exception is the letter x, which is the entry used to cancel the login procedure. We were unable to devise a way to access the Linksys routers using the Debian package for edbrowse version 3.3.4. Thanks to the edbrowse developers for their assistance isolating this issue.
