The following workaround makes some improvement:
# in Icedove select Edit->Preferences
# select the Advanced tab
# press "Config Editor"
# enter "dpi", press enter
# modify the value of the key layout.css.dpi from -1 to 0
# restart Icedove
I can confirm that the issue is fixed by moving the dpi from -1 to 0.
Thanks for the tip Daniel.
For my part, I think that the issue was introduced with a new icedove
package (2.0.0.17-1). I was upgrading from a old sid, with probably one
of the first "icedoved" releases (which was working fine).
And I switched my Xorg video driver from nv to nvidia at the same time.
I noticed quite a few changes on font rendering, maybe it could be
linked with the dpi issue ?
Anyway, problem solved by switching to 0.
Good luck;
