How exactly did you compile it ?
Maybe there was a slight misunderstanding: I talked about compiling the
official 1.4.0 release. That is: I grabbed dosemu-1.4.0 from
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosemu/dosemu-1.4.0.tgz?download
together with dosemu-freedos-1.0-bin.tgz. Unpacked, configured with
"configure --prefix=/usr/local", executed make, su, make install.
I can investigate more on this box, but I don't know much where to look.
I was thinking maybe just the text is black together with the background,
making it invisible. So I tried selecting a bunch of lines in
gnome-terminal by mouse, thinking the text may appear, instead I saw
random black blocks... i.e. some character positions were all white, some
all black, no letter appeared anywhere.
Btw. I also tried running dosemu with different locale (intead of my
cs_CZ.UTF-8, I tried en_US.UTF-8 and C), but it didn't make any
difference.
I found out that setting $_video to "none" in dosemu.conf also works
around that issue, although that's no solution for me, as I need vga.
Maybe the difference lies in the difference of 1.4.0 official package and
the source used for the debian package dosemu/1.4.0+svn.1828-2. - If that
means it's a different revision than the 1.4.0 official release.
