AFAIK, this has nothing to do with the GPL. Moreover the driver has
in rtmp_main.c the following line:
MODULE_LICENSE("GPL");

My guess would be you are using an old rt2500.ko not compiled against
your current kernel. Could you try to rebuild it against your current
kernel?
