I cannot reproduce this here. I can import tiffs and jpgs without problems.
I tested 0.46-2.lenny{1,2} in my lenny-chroot and 0.46-5 on unstable.
Can you describe how the jpg/tiff was created? The combination sounds a bit
like you are importing converted raw images from a digital camera. Do your
images contain 16 bits per colour channel? I tested only 8Bpc.
Can you attach a sample image which fails on your system to the bug?
