Package: network-manager Version: 0.6.6-2 Severity: important
NetworkManager is used by several applications to determine whether there's currently a connection to the internet. As NM ignores any devices that are not auto/allow-hotplug + dhcp + _no_ addition option, even a minor customization (like adding an "up"-rule to enable Wake-on-LAN) will break these packages [1,2]. This is documented in [3], but since the applications just didn't work instead of complaining about NetworkManager saying there's no internet connection, I had no reason to read that file. Tracking down the issue took me about 12 hours since I suspected it in Sugar or Telepathy, not /etc/network/interfaces. So please mention this possible breakage in /etc/network/interfaces.
