Subject: not all characters in password for user sympa allowed
Package: sympa
Version: 5.3.4-6.1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Dear Debian folks,

in the Debconf-dialog for the password of the sympa user, I had included
the character ‘(’ using pwgen -sy for password generator.

I got the following error message.

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Setting up sympa (5.3.4-6.1) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/sympa.config: eval: line 153: syntax error near unexpected
token `('
dpkg: error processing sympa (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 sympa

The locale on this system—reportbug was run on a different machine—is
en_US.

If this is hard to fix, it would be nice to add a warning/notice to the
Debconf-dialog that only ASCII characters are allowed.

If I can provide further information, please tell me.

I am not sure about the severity, so adapt as you like.

Thanks,

Paul
