Except that the doc-base entry doesn't say anything about GNU; it just claims to be documenting "locate". On a given Debian system, GNU locate may or may not even be installed, and "locate" may mean slocate or mlocate; if that's the case, telling users all about a different implementation of the command is unhelpful. The only way users are going to have a chance of second-guessing it is if they happen to be familiar with the way the upstream tarballs are organised.
