Hi Nathan and Karsten,
I can confirm this bug as well. The package in Lenny does not give this error. It certainly must be something with the GUI since the program runs flawlessly from the command line.

I use GTK/GNOME rather than KDE. My processor is an AMD AthlonXP.
In the mean time I have created fresh debian installations
matching your reportbug configurations exactly (except for running
under kvm, but this should not matter here).
Still no luck reproducing the problem.

So this must be caused by some local customization. Some things of
interest are:

- Let's double check that we're testing against the same binary:
c...@testing$ md5sum $(which dvdisaster)
3b0bdf46fefcf055cb2b1bc6cb0396ed /usr/bin/dvdisaster

- Please create a new user account, log into it with default
settings and see if the problem persists.

- Provided that you are not using any self-compiled packages,
I'd like to see your output of dpkg --get-selections so that
I can install my virtual machines similar to your environments.

Cheers,
 Carsten
