In mew-3.3/mew-smime.el, the mew-smime-passphrase function seems to
work when a prompt message matches a value of the
mew-smime-msg-enter-pass variable.

Could you please try the following configuration?

  (setq mew-smime-msg-enter-pass "Enter pass phrase")

BTW, the upstream author drastically rewrited mew-smime.el in Mew 4.2
(using gpgsm instead of openssl).  However, it is still in the alpha stage.

If you wish to enhance mew-smime.el, please use Mew 4.2 or later,
and ask comments to the upstream mailing lists (http://www.mew.org/ML/).
