Hello Craig,

no, I don't running a strange kernel nor I'm using special kernel options. My kernel is the kernel which came with the update from etch to lenny.

itchy:/# uname -a
Linux itchy 2.6.26-1-686 #1 SMP Fri Mar 13 18:08:45 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

The grub menu.list was automatic generated by debian and shows no unusual options:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-1-686
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-1-686

The CPU is a Intel Pentium:

itchy:/# cat /proc/cpuinfo

vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 7

power management:

But I can confirm that the CPU times are always 0 in the stats.
e.g. a top process, which runs about 10 minutes
l...@itchy:~$ cat /proc/21399/stat
21399 (top) S 19973 21399 19973 34817 21399 4202496 383 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 18 -2 1 0

On another system, where top is working, the numbers on field 11 and 12 change all the time. The only differences between the two systems are, that I made a fresh install of lenny on the machine where top is working and the CPU is a Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz

Hope this helps somehow.

Best regards
Michael

I've CCed this to the BTS as there seems to be a general problem here.

Stating at state, 12+ fields in is the CPU times.
All are 0.

Mine are not:
13479 (bash) S 13469 13479 13479 34820 18496 4194304 3535 38335 30 12 8 24 187 6 ^^^^^^^^^^

That's the problem.
uname -a here says
Linux gonzo 2.6.26-1-686 #1 SMP Sat Jan 10 18:29:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Are you running any strange kernel or kernel options?
