Due to the old version of libgda3, gnumeric isn't built or shipped with database support. libgda3 3.1.5 was fairly easy to debianize based on the 3.0.x source and I confirmed that doing so and rebuliding the gnumeric package with --with-gda resulted in a working gnumeric-gdaif plugin.
