Could you please post the output of which pdftops dpkg -S `which pdftops` dpkg -s xpdf-utils ls -l /usr/lib/libstdc++* Because xpdf-utils and xpdf-reader are built at the same time and the dependencies force you to have matched versions installed, so I suspect your pdftops is not the one from the package.
