Updating from 0.9.27-1 to 0.9.28 caused a rename for certain frontends such a scanimage.pl to scanimage-perl and the same for scanadf.pl. The settings is being cached in ~/.gscan2pdf as "frontend = scanimage.pl", but the new names aren't being updated in the configuration file or a warning to select a frontend will be given until you try to scan with no clue to the user how to solve this.
Ouch. Yes. I'll look at a patch for this.
The current workarround is to select libsane-perl in the configuration window. I still need to look into why scanimage-perl doesn't deliver the same options in the scanwindow as with scanimage.pl.
scanimage-perl is just scanimage.pl renamed. libsane-perl is not, and offers (almost) every option that the SANE backend for your scanner offers.
