Hi,
  I can't reproduce this bug ...
I tried following test case:
1. epiphany ( firefox, thunderbird, openoffice,
epiphany+firefox+thunderbird+openoffice ) on tag 1
2. xterm with emacs -nw on tag 2
3. xterm on tag 3 running simple script ( steal_focus.sh, attached to
this message ), that switches to tag 2, waits 5 seconds, and fast
switches to tag 1 and back to tag 2. I believe that it does what you
were doing ... doing this by hand gives the same result.

after this test case focus was left on xterm with emacs on tag 2 (
epiphany didn't stole focus - Ctrl+N was moving cursor inside emacs )

Some questions:
1. Can you reproduce this bug with attached script ? If not can you make
one that reproduces it ?
2. Are you sure, that you are running 3.3-rc1-1 version of awesome ? (
e.g. what output gives: awesome -v )
3. Can you reproduce it with default rc.lua ?
