Package: <gFTP> Version: < 2.0.18-17> System: debian/lenny
Under some circumstances, the permissions of folders get changed from 0755 to 0750 and permissions of files get changed from 0644 to 0640 on uploads to my webpage (georgesbasement.com). At first I thought this was a cPanel problem and initially inquired about it there: http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?p=3D511009 But on further investigation I found that I could only reproduce it with gFTP and not FileZilla (under debian/lenny) or CuteFTP (WinXP). The following is copied from an email to InMotion Hosting support:
I set up a directory here: http://www.georgesbasement.com/Directory/ I did not make it write protected. Then I added an index.htm file and a JPEG image to Directory. OK so far - Directory has 0755 permissions. Then I added a second Directory under it: http://www.georgesbasement.com/Directory/Directory/ and added copies of index.htm and georgesbasement.jpg. Still OK - the additional Directory also has 755 and the image is 0644. Still OK. I then uploaded LindWedding1960UncleJoe at the same level as the /www.GB.com/Directory/Directory, so the listing under http://www.georgesbasement.com/Directory/ reads "index.htm over Directory over LindaWedding1960UncleJoe." The permissions of LindaWedding1960UncleJoe are 0750, and the permissions of the images in the LindaWedding1960UncleJoe directory are a mix of 0640 and 0644.
I have not changed the file or folder permissions in this example. Background information:
