I just took a look at the documentation and I don't see how not having a functional search box (which most static docs don't even provide) is enough reason to declare a strong dependency. > Other packages also depend on libjs-jquery (e.g. python-multiprocessing) Sure, web apps do. I don't know the specific case of python-multiprocessing, but I really don't think that going this way is a good idea. I mean, I don't mind having to install such a small package, or even a big one, if it provides me of some functionality that I will ever use. But in this case I don't directly use python-apt, and even less its documentation, and even less a search box. > and downgrading the dependency to recommends would cause the symlink at > /usr/share/doc/python-apt/html/_static/jquery.js > to point to a non-existing file /usr/share/javascript/jquery/jquery.js Only if no-install-recommends is true. And having a broken symlink is not the end of the world either, and its effect on the search page is an inoffensive "Please activate JavaScript to enable the search functionality." Hope you reconsider the situation.
