Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi!

Trying to see why some "unneeded" libraries where being installed by d-i
(see the thread at http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2009/05/msg00533.html;
probably reading the thread will explain more things that I will be able to
write here), it was told to me that the right place to talk about this with
the ftp-masters.

What is happening is: doing a minimal install of Debian (without selecting
"Standard system" nor anything else on tasksel), there are libs installed that
don't have any reverse-dependencies.

For example, on Lenny it's possible to see that libsasl2-2 and libgnutls26
don't have any packages on the system depending on them.
(if both are uninstalled, them it's also possible to remove libgcrypt11,
libtasn1-3 and libgpg-error0).
Lenny has been released, so this won't be changed.

But using a daily-built netinst image, there is still a list of "unneeded"
packages:

libconsole, libgnutls26, libsasl2-2 and libusb-1.0-0

Removing them we still have:
libdb4.6, libgcrypt11, libasn1-3, libgpg-error0

It's possible to see this by installing a minimal system and running deborphan,
for example.

Shouldn't these packages have their priority fixed, so they won't get installed
without being needed?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Nelson
