Package: apt-proxy
Version: 1.9.36.3+nmu1
Followup-For: Bug #460338

I've had apt-proxy running for the Debian (was Etch, just migrated the Xen
dom0 to Lenny, which was the last and the most troublesome, but that's
another bug report, maybe). Today I inadvertently demonstrated the apt-proxy
hang in a way that may be suggestive to those familiar with its internals,
or at least provide an easy way to trigger this failure mode.

1) aptitude -u [presumably you could do likewise with apt-proxy]
2) queue some additions/updates; perhaps one or more large debs are
necessary (I was installing a non-Xen kernel to make future boot
problems more easily fixable than the recent upgrade was)
3) shortly after starting to fetch the files, interrupt it with control-C

At this point apt-proxy will cause the "waiting for headers" hang when
aptitude is restarted (in this case apt-proxy and aptitude are running on
the same machine). apt-proxy is still working away, downloading the large
deb. After that was done, I could restart aptitude and everything went
normally, with the requested packages [all?!?] downloading almost instantly
from apt-proxy's cache.

I'm pretty sure this explains at least some of the (infrequent) times I've
seen this sort of hang in the past (been using apt-proxy since the bash
script version, don't believe it ever did this until v2 came along).
