It should be done automatically, unless you said that you don't want it
to do so when you first installed it.  Can you send me a script(1) log
of a session to upgrade?  You may need to re-downgrade first.

Without that, I don't think I'll have any hope of tracking down what
happened.

Note too that 3.0.1-2 is built on sid and targeted for squeeze, so there
may be something else going on with lenny as well.
