Usplash, it seems, is out[0], Plymouth is in[1] (well, soon). Maybe
desktop-base should recommend Plymouth instead? 

It takes advantage of KMS (kernel mode setting) which is only available
for Intel chips at the moment, but hopefully all other major video cards
will support this before the release of squeeze.
