Maybe I have made a mistake, do let me know if this is the case.

[ku...@bluemoon ~] grep "^output" .ripit/config
output=.

[ku...@bluemoon ~] grep "^output" /etc/ripit/config 
output=

You rightly guessed this in your earlier mail. Is "." not expected to
be used? If so, maybe the man page could mention it.
