now, it works again.i had some issues with the newly upgraded ia32-apt-get -- i'd guess the very same issues made apt-file break. anyway, any useful error messages would be highly appreciated, getting the help when you are sure you did nothing wrong, isn't really helpful becauee you can't see what exactly went wrong.
