Package: dovecot-common Version: 1:1.2.1-1 Severity: normal Hi,
dovecot currently defaults with: mbox_write_locks = dotlock fcntl according to policy 11.6 though: All Debian MUAs, MTAs, MDAs and other mailbox accessing programs (such as IMAP daemons) must lock the mailbox in an NFS-safe way. This means that fcntl() locking must be combined with dot locking. To avoid deadlocks, a program should use fcntl() first and dot locking after this, or alternatively implement the two locking methods in a non blocking way. Postfix does indeed lock in the opposite order to this, and Jaldhar noted the above policy in discussion about that in #d-d, so probably we should flip the order of these in the config supplied by the package.
