I never tried to run on user-mode-linux. Could you 1) Simply run erl to confirm that the problem is indeed in Erlang emulator (it's almost obvious from backtrace though). 2) Install erlang packages from sid (I think it'd be sufficient to purge erlang packages and install only erlang-base) and try to run it again.
